Residential
Project:City Beach House 2
Status:Completed 2009
Brief:To design a home for an active, retired couple and their older children providing the space and functionality to cater for their many and varied individual and combined interests.
Solution:Located on a steeply sloping block, close to the beach the topography and shape of the site provided a challenge to balance the space requirements of the brief with other requirements including capitalizing on available coastal views, the retention of significant trees, a requirement for low maintenance, a desire to maximise natural light and a need to provide protection from the elements.
The house was moved to the rear of the site, the highest portion of the lot, to maximize the opportunity for views. The long drive provides a dramatic approach and allows views to the house from the street integrating it with the streetscape and providing security through passive surveillance. A simple colour palette combined with bold shapes, sensuous curves and luxury finishes creates a striking aesthetic.
Interiors, designed to maximize functionality, are finished to a high standard. Materials include marri timber flooring, feature walls of natural stone, caesarstone benchtops, frameless glass balustrading, stainless steel fittings and special paint finishes.
The finished house provides a significant amount of accommodation, laid out to provide well connected spaces which are functional, attractive and comfortable.
