Medical Centre – Mt Barker
Completed 2009
Brief:A functional yet flexible medical facility with a “modern aesthetic” designed “to serve the community for years to come”
Solution:Located on a sloping bushland site adjacent to the local hospital,
the facility was designed to minimize cost and maximize tenantable area.
The insulated timber-framed building sits on a concrete floor which provides
thermal mass. The selection of durable exterior materials allows easy
maintenance and cleaning.
Natural light is available to all consulting rooms and was maximised
throughout the building by minimising the building depth and using
strategically placed clearstory windows and external courtyards.
The building form is strikingly simple yet balanced and produces a
welcoming building which is functional and relates well to its surroundings.
Designed to allow for future expansion the centre will serve the
ever growing Great Southern Region community for many years to come.
